SHIDFF Deaf Art Exhibition & Silent Auction at Art Labor Gallery 17-19 August!

We are pleased to announce that the dates for the SHIDFF 2018 First Annual Charity Art Exhibition and Auction will be on August 17-19. Our venue will be Shanghai’s premiere contemporary art gallery, Art Labor.

According to SmartShanghai, “Art Labor has perhaps the most distinctive viewpoint of any gallery in the city. Vancouverite Martin Kemble is often ahead of the curve, helping kickstart the careers of talents such as ink brush painter Ying Yefu and mad scientist Lu Yang. He has also brought excellent artists to China who have never shown here before, including oracle Douglas Coupland.”

Taking social responsibility seriously, Canadian director/curator Martin Kemble has hosted a number of benefit art shows for Shanghai’s emerging social enterprises and charitable causes struggling for funds and recognition. Art Labor’s well-attended parties and events have provided a welcome-platform for social inclusion and exchange for many segments of Shanghai society, always focusing on fine contemporary art as the point of convergence.

Located in Shanghai’s trendy Central Jing’an/Suzhou Creek neighbourhood, Art Labor has nurtured a number of Chinese notable talents as well as exposed Shanghai to renowned international artists. Designed by well-known Montreal architect Israel Noel, the space at Art Labor features moveable walls and lighting installations for maximum flexibility.

The exhibit will feature a group show by both emerging and established deaf artists and hearing allies from China as well as internationally. Special guest of honour will be Japanese Master Deaf Artrist, Michio Yagi. One of the coveted auction items is an opportunity to bid for a place in a small group art workshop conducted personally by Michio Yagi here in Shanghai and offered exclusively to our patrons.

Please join us at Art Labor gallery for our first annual SHIDFF Charity Art Exhibition and Auction on August 17-19! The exhibition will be hung and silent auction bids can be placed during opening hours on August 17-19. A closing reception will be held  on Sunday, August 19th from 4-7 pm which will feature final bidding, awarding of auction prizes, talks by Michio Yagi and SHIDFF Founding Director Sam Zheng, and a sneak preview screening of Oscar-winning short film The Silent Child. Show you support for using the power of film and art for greater social inclusion in Shanghai!
